Can I volunteer for NMAS?
In autumn 2025 we re-started our volunteer program, which is available annually between July – December. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us to receive a volunteer application. We are looking for grounded and compassionate individuals with a professional demeanor, who put the animals first. All work is performed outdoors and inside barns.
Do You Accept Visitors?
Because we operate our businesses full-time in addition to running the sanctuary, we’re generally unavailable for public tours. However, regular supporters and those delivering fruits, vegetables, or donations are welcome to check with us in advance to see if a 15 minute visit with the animals is possible. Only respectful and quiet individuals are permitted.
How Many Animals Live At NMAS?
Over 75 rescue animals live at our Sanctuary. This includes goats, rabbits, sheep, turkeys, pigs, chickens, guinea pigs, and several turtles.
What is Holistic Animal Care?
Amanda Dainow, Co-Founder of NMAS and certified clinical herbalist in holistic animal care, uses natural herbal medicine, in combination with conventional veterinary medicine to treat the animals at the Sanctuary. For more visit: www.singingnettles.ca
Who Founded NMAS?
North Mountain Animal Sanctuary is a registered charity, founded in 2010 by Amanda Dainow and Leif Vernest.
Where Are You Located?
North Mountain Animal Sanctuary is located in Kings County, in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, Canada (traditionally known as Mi’kma’ki). Please contact us for our address if you wish to donate by cheque, or are making a delivery.
